Market Updates

Weekly Economic Update: March 11, 2024

• Yields moved lower over the week with the two-year Treasury note falling by five basis points to 4.49% while the five-year note dropped by eleven basis points to 4.05%.

• The labor market added a more than expected 275 thousand workers to payrolls in February however, the headline number came alongside a steep downward revision of January’s reading from 353 thousand to 229 thousand.

• Wages moderated in February with average hourly earnings accelerating by a slim 0.1% while January’s outsized reading of 0.6% was revised down to 0.5%.

• Economists and investors will be watching the data this week with February’s CPI due out on Tuesday, Retail Sales on Wednesday then followed by wholesale inflation and UM sentiment later in the week.
